elctric fuel pumps keep failing!
And another problem:
I have mounted an electric fuel pump to my 2 stroke Par Car. Positive terminal to the solenoid. Works fine in the beginning: lots of fuel en and engine runs (no power, see my other thread). but after a very little time the first pump went out. Got power to it but it seized. Got a new one under warranty. placed it today......same problem!!! failed again. It can't be the fuel with the oil can it? Can it be a to high voltage/amperage? Really getting tired know...feel like pussing it down a cliff (fortunately we dont have one here |

Re: elctric fuel pumps keep failing!
Oil in the fuel is not the problem. It is probably excessive current due to higher voltage. I would try a current limiting resistor. Maybe a point system resistor which is around 4 ohms.

Thankx.
Will try that. Or maybe the power direct from the battery and then a relay with switches on the solenoid? |

I have found that if you dead head the pump -- pump and pump but use little to no fuel my pump would stall. I put a tee in the line back into the tank and have had no further problems. Sense the pictures i have changed the plastic tee to a metal tee.

Re: elctric fuel pumps keep failing!
That sounds reasonable! If the pump stalls it will draw too much current.

I hooked mine to the micro switch on the accelerator.

Re: elctric fuel pumps keep failing!
How many volts is the system putting out at high rpm with all accessories off? With an improperly adjusted voltage regulator it could be somewhere around 18 volts. It could be more than what the pumps can handle.
I can't tell from the pics where the return line is coming from so I can't make sense of what is happening from the pics. Something is missing or doesn't seem right. There should be another T after the fuel pump. |

Re: elctric fuel pumps keep failing!
I wonder if you are losing prime somehow and the pump is operating dry for a period before it primes back up? These dry runs may be causing the pump to fail? Most electric pumps have back flow limiters incorporated into them but who knows what's out there. Just a thought.

Re: elctric fuel pumps keep failing!
upgraded to a better and bigger fuelpump and not a 20 dollar on. Wired it directly to the battery through a relais. Relais work on the big golfcart relais.
Work fine now. Tear apart the other ones but no idea whats wrong with them... Also solved the engineproblem: rear breaks were stuck! Cart now runs 21 km/hr and thats enough for me |
