engine missing like crazy
Well I've been working on my 94 Par Car P4G and it still missing badly.
Today I removed to muffler and saw no different just much louder. Did a voltage regulator test watched the needle jump all over the place. Question is can a bad voltage regulator cause the engine to miss so badly. ??? The jumps on the meter directly correspond to the miss of the engine. would drop as low as 3 volts and jump back up to 12 volts sometimes it would read 15 on my digital meter all corresponding to the miss in the engine. What are you thoughts. I'm convinced it is something basic in the wiring somewhere. One last thought this cart was change from a key forward/reverse to a key on only and an Ezgo Forward/reverse switch. |

Re: engine missing like crazy
Where did you probe to test and get 3 - 15 volts?
3 volts going to the coil would affect the coils secondary output (spark plug voltage), but since there is a battery there should be always be 12-15 volts going to the coil whether or not the voltage regulator is bouncing around. So in this case the voltage regulator isn't going to affect the engine, only the battery. On the other hand if you didn't have a battery then 3 volts going through the primary circuit of the coil would directly affect the secondary voltage by decreasing the voltage low enough the plug wouldn't fire. Where is the power coming from that feeds the keyswitch? Is it to the battery + terminal or for some reason wired to the voltage regulator. |

Re: engine missing like crazy
what I did was attach the meter to the battery reading 12 and a half volts
then when I started the car the meter would jump from 15 to 3 12 to 3, 11 to 3 and back and forth like that and all the time the engine was missing every time it went to 3 volts. The meter was attached directly to the battery post |

That's odd. Sounds like a faulty meter. See what you get with the engine off. I had one that I had to wiggle the selector knob a little that done something similar to that.

Re: engine missing like crazy
okay you asked where the power for the key switch is coming from!
Original wires were used One is orange and runs to the Microswitch. The other is white and runs to the Circuit breaker then from there to the Solenoid just as in the original wiring diagram. The heavy wires for forward/reverse are now on an Ezgo forward/reverse switch, which I'm told was originally intended for an electric cart, mounted on just below the seat like many carts I've seen. |

Re: engine missing like crazy
Just as a side question how many volts run from the reverse switch to the generator starter or/and the amps????

Engine off I get 12 volts I thought it might be a loose screw on the battery or something and I took a clamp and clamping down so I make sure all the connections were tight and it still did the same thing so I don't know what's going on I've never had anything do anything like this |

olan I didn't tell you I used to 2 different meters not trusting just 1. Had to double check my readings and they were the same both meters.

Battery voltage goes to the starter. Not sure about the amps. If you know the width of the wire, then you know the gauge and therefore the maximum amps for that wire.
Something either has to be wrong with your battery, or the generator is putting power to the battery and then quickly drawing it back out. I don't know if a voltage regulator would cause that or not. Try another battery and recheck your wiring with the wiring schematic in the manual. |

Re: engine missing like crazy
I received my new electronic module today. Had it installed in just a few minutes. Man what a difference.
Voltage has settled down at 15.1 to 15.3 running and steady in that area. The miss is gone runs pretty smooth Do these engines idle down pretty low??? Guess I need to go to a golf cart shop and test drive a newer one to see what to expect. |
