Forward/Reverse Switch
I have question.. I using an ezgo f/r switch from an 80's something cart to give me f/r in my 94 Par Car. It was done that way when I purchased the cart and didn't know that it was not the way it was supposed to be. That being said it seems to work pretty well except that when in forward and you take off it will go just fine for a short distance but once you get up to speed it seems as the choke is on, Which it is not. But if you move the selector switch about 1/2 way off the connection the cart goes great and it runs fine until you come to a stop and you have to push the lever back down and it will start up and go fine again..
After all that in checking over the wiring diagrams for ezgo and Par Car the difference I see is that my cart has a wire with two diodes going to connections A-1 and A-2 on the starter generator. That is the way my cart is wired up now with A from the F/R switch going to F-1, B going to A-2, C is grounded and D goes to A-1. Now the ezgo diagram for an 1980 gas cart shows the same wiring except the wire with the 2 diodes is eliminated and a wire goes from the C terminal on the f/r switch to the ground side of the voltage regulator, or the black wire in all of the diagrams I've looked up. Should i remove the wire with the 2 diodes and run a wire from the voltage regulator or leave well enough alone. ????? |

Re: Forward/Reverse Switch
While recognizing that the quality of replacement F/R switches seems to have improved over the past couple of years I couldn't help but notice this post combined with some PMs between Big E6 and me.
Big E6 may have stumbled across a nice work around for F/R switches via the use of an EZGo F/R lever. His schematic shows how it works. It's somewhat ingenious as it completely splits forward and reverse functionality from ignition rendering the key switch to serve as on / off only. The bad news is that those EZGo levers aren't cheap, just about the same price as a F/R switch. Their construction makes them very rugged though. Anyone else have any thoughts on this potential conversion? |

Re: Forward/Reverse Switch
You Know I like the lever idea as it will allow me to use the floor shift lever that looks like a Hurst shifter. Fits right in with my hot rod roots. LOL
