1990 Par car CLUTCH HELP
Hey guys I need some help with my 1990 Columbia par car Driven clutch.
I want to know if this wear would stop it from reaching top speed ? Anyone know a cheap place to get them from? How does it work as it goes faster does it go closer so the spring compresses and lock up together? |

Re: 1990 Par car CLUTCH HELP
Indeed, that clutch is a disaster. When your engine is revving high, the belt should travel towards the middle of the clutch thus compressing the spring. When the engine slows the spring will decompress which forces the belt back towards the edge of the clutch.
Your clutch is misaligned. The pointed parts should not be coming together like they are in that last pic. Take a look at your first pic. The pointed part of the top part should be aligned with those two rivets on the bottom part so that the top has plenty of room to travel when the cart revs. See the attached pic. That how the points should be aligned in a perfect condition clutch. In your case, that can't happen as the points are hitting. The points don't have to be exactly in the middle like in pic but they can't bit hitting each other like they are with yours. There is some good news in that that clutch is still made and not nearly as costly the primary drive attached to the motor. Replacement is pretty easy as well. Get on the net and search for suppliers and let your wallet decide who to buy from. |

Re: 1990 Par car CLUTCH HELP
Thanks for your reply it is greatly appreciated ! Yes I see what your saying how it isn't aligned.
Wonder if it was fitted like that when engine was removed before I bought it or it has moved while driving. It still drives ok and goes 30kph at full speed, what speed should these do? I found a driven clutch for $180 new so I will get that one. Do I just remove the bolt at the front of the clutch and it will come off or do I need a puller ? |

Re: 1990 Par car CLUTCH HELP
My carts will go right around 20 mph. I am not exactly sure how that equates to kph though.
No puller needed for replacement. There are 4 bolts (maybe it's 5?) that hold that clutch onto a round plate connected to the axle. It's a bit tight back there but you'll get them. That clutch should slip on and off. Pretty easy job. Those clutches just wear over time. They don't last forever. I am sure it was installed properly. It's just worn and needs replaced. |

Sweet as mate.
I will order that clutch then and get it done. Yeah 20mph is 32kph so it's about the same speed. Mine hasn't been driven for 3 years it has been sitting and I drove it he other day and noticed the clutch worn and also blowing a bit of smoke.......I premix the oil myself at 80:1 hope it clears up as I got told it had just been rebuilt before I bought it. |
