Post Columbia gas cart electric start

Hello everyone,
I just got an 82 four wheel DX4 . When I turn the key on it immediately starts turning over.
I found a manual but when it gets to the switch, every image I have found on line or in a book seems to have a garbled or distorted image or the clear ones are "not that clear". Just wondering if anyone has had this issue or if someone has a good picture and or diagram of the switch. It would probably help with other issues as well. I also, for example, found other wires that have been damaged. Like the 2 thin wires that come off of
A1 & A2 in the back of the gen start, with the resistors in line..... one of them is broken where the resistor is.
Please accept my apology for being long winded. just trying to give some detail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there. Check out the wiring diagram on page 54 of the attachment. That's for a 1983 but it will be the same as your cart. That should be a better diagram for you.

There is probably one of two things going on with your cart:

1) The microswitch, located under the driver's floor, is either stuck closed or intentionally bypassed. It's easy to check with a voltage meter on the continuity setting but pretty much if you hear and feel it clicking when you are manually working the switch it's probably ok.

2) Your key switch could be bad. The switches on these carts are upwards of $100. A few years ago, before China starting making them, they were over $200. When one went bad people would just rewire the switch or cart so that it only provided F/R while always idling while in the "on" position like your's is.

Check that microswitch first. If that's not it focus on your key switch.

The wiring on these carts is pretty basic and it doesn't take much to troubleshoot it.

Hi Lochlin,
Thanks for the information. It's greatly appreciated..... I have all winter, so I'm going to take my time and make it right so the wife can drive it at the camp grounds. I'm going to look at the manual and try to understand how to check the positions on the switch to make sure they're working correctly. Thanks again for sending me the information.
