Smile Help! New par car owner.

So I recently took a chance on a 1996 Par car not knowing if it would run or not.. I paid $300.00 for it.. well I took it to a small engine repair man who worked on it here in there for several days and I got the news today that the engine is no Bueno. Since I am brand new to golf carts I have done a little research but what am I looking at to get this thing up and running and is it worth sinking money into or should I just invest in a new and running cart? All input and info is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Welcome! Pics of the cart would help. Also, are you mechanically inclined? Both would help with accurate replies.

I myself don’t know much of anything about motors but I have no problem paying someone that does.

Body looks good. Love the vintage stripes, suits the cart. Guess what I was feeling out, was how much you were willing to learn and do to get her back from the dead. Older carts can take more than their value in labor if you hire everything done. But you have a cool, vintage ride that not everyone can buy, unlike the majority of today's plastic carts. Someone will surely post some more specific help pertaining to your 'glass from the past!

Thank you! I’m thinking I don’t wanna put more than $2,500.00 into this cart. I have no idea if that’s even possible so I guess I will have to do a lot more research on parts and labor and add everything up. Thank you for your input. 👍😃

Vegascarts a sponsor here has a complete engine swap kit for this cart. An easy way to give it a new life.

I have resurrected many carts that were slated for junk. Bottom line is that these are machines and any faulty machine can be made to run again. Without even seeing that cart I can tell you 100% that the thing can be fixed. Parts are available and, really, that and some information is all that's needed. It's really tough to say what could be wrong without more detail, though.

Does the thing even turn over? Meaning, when the key is on and you hit the accelerator is there any action at all?

No sir there is no sign of life. When I bought it I was told that everything worked on it but the keys were lost and they never ordered another one... I knew better than that because the man had also said that they tires just needed air. Obviously he thought I was an idiot cause tires were dry rotted and trash.. I knew I was taking a chance and prob wasn’t in my favor due to the man being the idiot. So I talked him down from $700. To $350.... but any way the guy I took my cart to is very knowledgeable in small motors. He works on pretty much anything. He has a passion for it.... I’m just trying to figure out what will be my most cost effective route. I really wanna see this cart run. I have gotten a lot of compliments on it and people saying they have never seen one like it. 😃

At 350 clams, if the frame and suspension are decent [maybe a bit worn but not bent or broken] you got a steal! Hell girl, that gives you more corn for upgrading the motor and all the other goodies that will make the cart uniquely yours! Use the rotted tires for flower planters along the drive and the worn out motor [painted the color of your choosing] as yard art and you have wasted nothing!
