Default 84 par car piston ring broke

So my piston ring broke and scraped up the cylinder and piston. I bought a kit with new cylinder, piston, rings, and gaskets and installed them.
Engine wouldn't run, or would barely run. I got new plug, wire, and coil, no change. I checked the reeds and they are all intact. Compression is 95. I seem to have good vacuum, tries to suck my fingers in a bit when I cover the air intake. I replaced the crank case seals a couple years ago anyways, so that shouldn't be the issue. I have a tecumseh snowblower float bowl style carb. I thoroughly cleaned it out. It is a gravity feed type of carb, so I have an electric fuel pump circulating fuel to a T, which then allows the fuel at the T to gravity feed the carb. There is fuel in the bowl. It seems to run best when the idle screw is all the way in, and when I fine tune the main needle I get about 1/4 to 1/2 power at best. I can get a little burst of power sometimes if I use the air bulb to pressurize the float bowl, but too much makes it stall. Likewise, if I spray starter fluid into the air intake it stalls. My fuel was bought about 2 months ago and I added a bit more oil to it as someone recommended for breaking in the new rings. I made sure by throttle is moving fully open and closed.
Anybody got any ideas?

Man, it seems like you have all of the bases covered. I don't know how it can be anything other than something with the carb but it's really tough to say.

Incidentally, I am having pretty much the exact same issue with a 2 cycle Suzuki quad. Everything checks out with the quad, it runs well without a load but the moment you try to ride it with a load it bogs out. I got sick of it and took it to a shop. When they figure out what's wrong with it I'll post it up.

I got it figured out! I had the hole in the piston skirt facing the exhaust instead of the intake. I flipped it around and it works great! Hope this helps.
