Default 86 Columbia par car carb replacement

Hey all I needed to replace my carb and I went with the FU22-270 it bolts on just need to fabricate a location for mounting the throttle oil pump and governor. Aside of that I am not able to get fuel from the tank to the carb. I primed the fuel line from the filter to the carb then from the filter back to tank. Repeated these steps half a dozen times and not able to get fuel going. Driving me nuts any suggestions?

Were you getting fuel to the carb prior to the carb replacement?

Thanks. Ok I had this cart for about 10 years only used it 2 of 10 so it sat for a while. Recently I decided to pull the engine and rebuilt it cleaned every piece by piece and new gaskets and the piston with new rings the cylinder was fine just needed a good deglaze went with standard piston and rings and got a perfect gapping. Replaced all fuel lines a new pickup in the tank and picked up a new mikuni pump. Yes it did get fuel back when I used it but it wasn’t that great in my perspective. My initial thought was vacuum but the carb that I changed out is twice the size of the original. Should you be able to feel the vacuum from the intake? My other thought was the fuel line in the tank I’m not happy with it since it seems to soften up sitting in the gas for a while.i did see that setup the guy has on eBay it’s 40 bucks I may go with that and work my way over.
Thank you
Joe

Also with the amount of fuel in the carb and filter I’m able to drive around for a short time before I need to refuel again and the power and ride is so much more than it ever was. So that tells me the rebuild was good so far. But reading the article provided to me I’m thinking about those seals now too. I’m going to try the gas tank fuel line from eBay or I’ll check my local auto parts store first and see if they carry it.
Thanks again.

Yeah, you should be able to feel a pretty good amount of suction at the air intact manifold. It sounds like you have a little bit of vacuum there, hence the short drives, but when the cart gets buzzing your vacuum isn't good enough to sustain the heightened need for gas.

Yes you are totally right. I hate to admit it but when I overhauled the motor I did not replace the seals they were fine to the naked eye. If I knew that they were vacuum related I would have. Well if that’s the case then at least it doesn’t take much to pull it again to take care of that.
Thanks so much for the help.

So on this carb replacement I gotta say thank God for these forums. I knew something was wrong when I replaced the carb they are sent to you wide open! Backwards. The throttle cable sort of holds it closed and the spring on the carb does all the work when increasing or decreasing the pedal. I forgot it was like that my cart sat for 8 years and never noticed it when disconnecting the throttle linkage.

Thanks for all the help I’m sure I’ll be around.
