Best thing to do with an 87 ParCar?

Okay friends and fellow cart owners. It's come to the point where I have to get my projects in order. I've been trying to sell my ParCar for $350.00 and today someone showed up and roasted my Starter/Generator. My wife had to try to show them the cart by herself because I was on an important call and as far as I can tell the throttle was left open while they were trying to find the key position to start it.

The generator was free moving about 3 months ago when I cleaned up the cart to sell it, but now it's tight as a drum. It was almost funny as a whiff of smoke rose up out of the starter. NOT

Well, I'm faced with the prospect of trying to fix the starter myself and running the cart as a Utility, or putting it up for sale as parts, or just taking it to the recycling center. Probably the best choice would be the recycling center for cash, but the motor is still in good shape. I've kept some oil in the cylinder so I don't see why it won't run after getting a new starter.

I figure that a truck bed style bed on the back, and some kind of spring stiffening and we can use it around the yard with my tractor. I've still got my Yamaha G1 to make into a woods cart, so a Utility would be a good addition. Maybe it would be worth more that way as well.

At this point I need new tires. Will riding mower tires be good enough? I have seen new starter/generators for around $110.00 and that would be a better choice than a rebuild I think. Any comments?

Mower tires will be fine on that.

With regard to the starter, if it's not spinning at all then one of the armature bearings probably broke of froze in place. That's actually a pretty easy job to replace but you have to open the starter up and that's where people tend to get into trouble. If those things don't go back together just right they will short and no work right.

Personally, I would never toss a cart out because of a starter. I would get a new one. Another option is to take that starter to an alternator shop and let them fix it. Those are very common starters and any alternator shop will be able to repair it for cheaper than new.

Starters can be rebuilt. Find an old starter generator repair shop is it is not something simple!
