1988 4 wheel gas not running
I baught this golf cart from an old guy who had it running when we got there. The only thing is he said you needed to get it warmed up to get it goin. So I drove it up and down his lane and then we took it home. At home it seems it doesnt matter if you warm it up, it still wont ever go.
The guy said it needed some kind of gasket in the engine. Does this make sence to any one. When you put in forward you can let the electric motor crank the engine all you want, but it doesnt ever start, even with choke. Thanks |

check for fuel, spark, and compression. If you dont have compression it wont start.

Re: 1988 4 wheel gas not running
Ok so I got some time to work on the cart, not much time but some. I now know it has spark, but Im not sure on how to check the gas. It has no fuel pump, and i dont know how to check to see if it is getting gas. It must be off of vacuum, but I dont know.
Also I sprayed starting fluid in the carb, and it didnt even kick over. it just cranked on the electric motor. So if yall can give me a leaping off point that would help. Thanks, |

Sounds like compression is all that is left. It should run around 90 pounds to 100 pounds. It should run with 70 or 75 pounds but should have new rings. Pull the top end if compression is low pull the top end and check for a scored cylinder or worn rings. Check the ring gap with a new set. Ring Gap should be around .007 to .020

there is a tube that goes into the gas tank and there is nothing on the end of it. It runs to block that has a tube from the oil tank, and another couple tubes running the the engine.

Re: 1988 4 wheel gas not running
I would get a compression reading before anything else is done.
Unscrew the spark plug and put a little gas mixture in the cylinder replace the plug and see if it will start. Put a little oil in the cylinder first to wet the cylinder walls then the fuel. It might start. |
