ParCar not charging, but Generator works????

Again not sure on the year of my ParCar Gas 2 stroke cart.

But I just bought a new battery and jacked it up and drove it in the air to get a voltage reading on the generator.
It was NOT charging the battery.
I started searching the forums, and found a PDF that said to disconnect the green wire/ DF wire and ground the terminal while checking the voltage.
Upon doing so I saw that the generator DOES work, as it put out 16V before I stopped revving it up.
Unfortunately the PDF does not say what to do after that, it goes on to assume that it doesnt work and that you need to put new brushes into the generator.

So my generator DOES work, but something is NOT charging the battery.
I tested conductivity of the green wire and it is going to the positve side of the circuit. (not sure if its supposed to)
But how do I get this to charge while its driving?
What are my next troubleshooting steps?
Thanks!!!!!!

Re: ParCar not charging, but Generator works????

I think it points to the voltage regulator as being the culprit.
Where is that located,
What does it look like?

I want to make sure the wires are plugged in on this still

either the voltage regulator(most likely)or the electric ignition was my problem

I think it is the voltage regulator but how do I test it?

Also how do I find out what year my cart is?

It uses a square regulator with a hole in it, all the info I found online says thats a 4 stroke regulator, where mine is a 2 stroke.

use a voltmeter and check the wires leaving the regulator, i did this like a year ago with a neighbor helping me whos a pro mechanic that worked on everything. jack it up start it and see if you volts rise at battery then regulator. i gave up and took mine to a shop.

Re: ParCar not charging, but Generator works????

ill update the thread.......

So before I bought a new regulator, I probed the wires for continuity and also to make sure they were getting the power/ground and green wire signal they were supposed to.
All were fine, so only thing left would be the regualtor is bad.
I don't know what year my golf cart is, my research said that I should have an older 2 stroke regulator on my cart, but I had a newer 4 stroke regulator on it (hole in the middle to mount it)
I purchased a new regulator, installed it, fired it up and tested the voltage, and it has the correct 14+ volts while it runs.

Which one did you use the older 2 stroke one or the newer 4 stroke one?

Thanks
