Default Replaced the fuel pump to find a broken carb.

Went to adjust the carb and found it has been broken right where it bolts to the intake. Now I have found a 1970s (?) Harley Davidson 4 wheel cart that needs a solenoid that I may buy. Will parts from an '87 Columbia work on an older cart? Is a used carb for an '87 Columbia in good shape hard to find? What should I look to spend to get them both in good running order?

Thanks, Al

Harley was a no-go. Not enough left if I paid the seller's price. But I got a really good picture of what to avoid when you carefully look over a cart. Don't fall for the "it runs!" routine. Even if it runs.

crash12888, according to Vintage Golf Cart Parts.com it is part number ** 127. I guess the model is WHL 10.

Here's a copy of their information:

Carburetor, Walbro

Part Number: FU127

OEM Part Numbers - 27158-82, 27158-82B, 27158-82C, 27158-87C, 27158-87E

Item Description -
WHL 10 Walbro Carburetor for 1987 to 1995 Columbia Par Car/Harley Davidson. NOTE: This carb can be retrofitted to 1982 to 1986 by using our kit number FU127G or purchasing FU125 complete.

LOL I just noticed the forum won't allow the letters F and U in succession as I wrote them as the Part Number.

Unhappy Local was a No Go

I stopped by the only "local" cart shop today some 50 miles away from my house and looked over his used carburetors, but he didn't have a Walbro WHL 10-1. He had a couple of bins full of used and "new" carbs and parts, but no Walbro. So then he looked up the price of a new one. It was $400.00, so when I said the on-line sources were less expensive he said buy one on-line. He also said to take it to a welder and get it TIG welded. The problem with welding is what else might be wrong with the carb that welding won't fix.

I guess a rebuild kit and some welding is the next course of action? Unless I can find some other lawn rig that used the Walbro WHL 10-1 carburetor that I can cannibalize one from. Does anyone know of a lawn mower that would have used a 2 cycle engine with this carb?

Thanks anyway.

Took out the battery to charge it and decided to take off the broken carb. This is what I found. Do you think it could be welded and still be worth using?
I think I need to find a good used one, or buy new.

A wild idea, see the extra holes in the flange, perhaps a plate
with studs as a spacer to sandwich the broken ear in a JB weld
repair and help mount it. while you hunt down a good used carb?
The broke off ear would act as a spacer.

You might not get the fuel inlet on the same side or might need to swap throttle shafts to get correct linkage hook up but like these below, I would try a couple before droping 4 bills for one.
Maybe email and ask them to measure the mounting hole center to center?

Found a cart mechanic in my own back yard. Well, if you call 17 miles away your back yard. He welded up the carb, and if that doesn't work he'll order one for me at cost. Don't know exactly how much that will be yet.

He also has a cart at his shop that belongs to someone who's moving that I might buy for my lift project. It is a newer Yamaha that has a problem with the engine that he thinks I can get for $500.00. He has been working on it since it was new I guess, and he says that it probably just needs rings. It runs, but smokes like a chimney.

We'll see just what the owner will accept and go from there.

Of course the Columbia will get the carb put back on and we'll see if there's anything else to do after that to have it running smoothly before that project goes forward.

info@vepetersen.com...

Beware of other places they were asking over $800 because of the earthquake in Japan...This guy got the price down to $200 for me...
