Default Intermittent ignition - 85 Par Car

My 85 started having an intermittent ignition problem. It cranks fine, turns over on the starter fine, and fires but cuts in and out. I replaced the points and checked the coil wires...everything seems ok there. Is there somewhere/something in the ignition system that typically goes bad on these? F/R Switch is new...so I'm ruling that out.
I've got a an MSD blaster coil on it...I assume that is ok to use?

Sometimes jiggling the choke seems to help it run...

Fuel pump/lines seem to be working ok...

Thanks for any advice!

Default Re: Intermittent ignition / Coil?? - 85 Par Car

Ok...so I've narrowed this down to the coil. Coil tested bad and I had replaced it with an MSD Blaster 2 Coil that I had laying around. Today I put on a universal Accel coil and it's running better...but still not like it used to before the stock coil went bad.

Anyone know a common auto coil that should work? Or should I just go with a replacement coil from vintagegolfcartparts.com?

Thanks!

I do know that it needs to be an internal resister coil. Not external resister.

hmmm do you know if a common small block chevy coil is internal or external?

I've running semi-ok with a universal Accel coil (it misses every now and again like it's recieving a weak spark)...have the stock coil on order and will recieve it Thurs...I'll let everyone know if I notice a difference.
