Wont Run
IVe got a columbia par car cart model 2L-21654-D4--that wont run, it originally had an issue with no compression, removed cylinder and found piston and cylinder junk, replaced these. removed oil injection hose and premixed fuel, was told it was common for these. it has spark and great compression but it doesnt seem to be getting any fuel. removed fuel pump and inspected it and nothing looks wrong there. i pulled the hose from the motor to pump and cranked it up and i can feel it pulsating but i dont know what kind of vaccum i am suppose to have. any ideas to what is going on here would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Wont Run
Hi,
I am reworking an older par car now and will try to help. Had similar issues as you, not getting fuel. Eventually had to replace all fuel lines, filters, fuel pump, and rebuild the carb. Regardless of the vacuum draw coming from the engine, if the fuel pump is not good, no fuel to the carb. You can check this by taking the line off of the fuel pump that goes to the carb and see if it spitting fuel when you turn it over. You can also carefully disassemble the fuel pump. I assume you have the square one. Take the screws out, pull the cover off of one side and you will see a daisy shaped plastic reed. If all the "petals" are not fully there you probably need a new pump. The straight replacement square pumps are pricey, but here is another option that worked for me http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/produc...fCatId=&mmyId= Their part number 1609 I would as a first step follow the fuel flow, starting with the filter in the gas tank (mine was clogged), then the fuel line inside the tank (mine was cracked), to the fitting on top of the tank and make sure you get good seals on all connections, then this will lead you to the fuel pump, then to the carb (mine was rough, but fixable with a carb rebuild kit from BU). Mine is an '87. Had it about a month and having fun with it, but they can be frustrating, you just have to go through everything meticulously. Hope this helps and Good Luck! |

Re: Wont Run
pull the fuel line off the carb and crank it over, is it pumping fuel out of the line?
