Default Columbia running sluggish on small inclines..

Well I am back and I have yet another problem...My cart runs now...finally..still need some minor adjustments I guess...

It starts good, but when I am running up a small incline it (at times) goes so slow...it's not forcing...but i have also had that same problem on level ground too. I can have the peddle to the floor and it just hangs in one slow mode. At times it will go faster...alot faster. I have also the problem of reverse...it just moves inches at a time untill I pull the choke (at least twice) then it backs up good. I was told that if I was to change my tires back to the original one that it will go faster...doesn't make sence to me..the cart has been lifted for the tires i have on.
I will try to post some pictures...

Thanks for any help you can give me.
Sandra

Does it have point ignition? What year is it? What has been done to it since you owned it? Has it ever ran well since you owned it? What size are the tires? And last does it run a lot faster down a slight incline?

Hi Tew45 thanks for replying.
Not sure what point ignition is. turn the key to forward or reverse...
1988 Columbia Parcar..just installed a new motor and carb...never ran before i got it...so this is it...as for the tire size I don't know...will look this weekend...

When i turn the key to reverse and step on the pedal it just inches back or hangs there....if I pull the choke once or twice only then does it move...I break and go forward and it goes....sometimes I can put the pedal to the floor and it will only go very slow.... ( but at a steady pace) other times it will go faster (normal) When i am on a very small incline (it's not struggling) but it's just slow...very slow.. coming off the incline it is faster... Then there are times when it goes really well and moves good...it's not like the motor is trying to go faster when it is slow moving the motor does not rev or struggle at all. It is drivable...but not sure if I am doing damage in driving it like this.

Thanks
Sandra

It sounds like the engine is not running at all. I think is moving by the starter motor. I will check my notes on a 88 model and see what configuration it is. I also think you may need some local help. I would jack up one rear wheel and see if the engine starts and runs with no load on it.

thanks tew45.

What your saying does not sound good at all...but it's a brand new motor?
We have jacked up one wheel when adjusting the carb...Everything turns good...the clutch goes in and out...it all looks good...I did just have the breaks done...they were not working at all...I got a friend to do them for me...I can now stop on a dime...I am just alittle upset because where I am there seems to be no one who does small engine repair..

Thanks again
Sandra

OK it sounds like the engine is running. You say it is a brand new motor but how do you know? The fuel system is working, the ignition system is working so you may have poor compression or leaky seals. Lets not panic yet. First, What size are your rear tires? Second about the engine, how do you know it is new? Something is not right and you have to help find out what. It could be simple. We will try to find out why i is not running right.

Unhappy Re: Columbia running sluggish on small inclines..

Hi
I got it from Ebay..paid 980 for it..the guy had 100% feedback and is still selling...this is his speciality...rebuilding motors...we also talked on the phone a few times. I will have to get back to you about the tires..I am not with the cart right now...I will be back from camp on Sunday and I will only know then.

I will take some pics of the motor...for you also...maybe saying new is not the right word...my engine was rebuilt...he told me plug and play...but when i got it the carb was cracked...so i bought a new one WHL 10 installed it and it runs fine. The guy who sold me the motor didn't replace the carb...he didn't have another one. So after waiting a year I bought my own.

Sorry ..What I ment to say is he had a rebuilt motor for a Parcar 1988...I sent him my core and he sent me the rebuilt one.

why are these carts so hard to fix? I did have a few people who asked me if I wanted to sell it....but I don't think I would get my money back...
I paid 980 for the motor..200 for the carb...75 for the guy who adjusted the carb...i just painted it...added some lights...re covered the seats...it all ads up...but i love my cart...just can't afford it anymore..i am a senior and I got it basicly for my husband who has Diabetes and his legs and feet get sore from walking...
Thanks again...and sorry for bothering you...

You are not bothering me at all! I love to help people repair their carts. Troubleshooting by internet is very hard to do but I try. You paid a little too much but the work is probably good. It just pays to be careful. I'm sure the forum members will help as much as possible. Since remote troubleshooting is difficult all information is necessary to help.
Your trouble is probably simple and easy to repair but some one with experience close to will be necessary. We will all help but there are so many small things that cause problems it may take some time. Don't hesitate to ask for help! That is what this forum is for. It will be harder to solve problems with some one that is a novice mechanic but we all will try!

Tew is it a hint that Sandra has to choke it to move.
No fuel or an air leak? She also had to change the carb so the jetting may be wrong.
