I just got an 84 Columbia g4 pretty cheap. I really like the looks of it but when I step on the accelerator, it only idles. I followed the accelerator cable back to the carburetor and if I try to manually move the throttle, it still just idles and doesn't shut off. Any ideas? I'm attaching some pictures in case it helps. Thanks

Golf carts do not idle. What you hear is the starter motor running. The engine is not running at all. You need to troubleshoot the engine problem!

I know that normally golf carts don't idle which is why it was confusing. So the starter motor is just continually turning over the engine? Blah. Ok, I'll investigate the obvious things like the gas line, spark, etc and see if I can determine anything else. Thanks!

So I've finally gotten around to working on this cart. I've done the carb rebuild, replaced the fuel pump and checked for spark but it still just turns over and over. Any ideas? Thanks, Doug

remove the spark plug and spray a little fuel mixture in the chamber and replace the plug. See if it fires. If it doesn't fire at all the timing is probably off. Check the compression and let us know what the readings are!

I finally got a compression tester. It reads 81psi. I sprayed some fuel mixture into the chamber but it didn't fire at all. Thanks, Doug

81 is not good but it should be enough to run fairly good for a while or at least. Your problem is ignition. Check point setting, timing, etc.

So, I've never had to deal with points, condenser, etc. I'm more used to solid state ignition but I am by no mean an expert. Where are the points and condenser located? Thanks, Doug
