Stripped out hub splines
I just picked up a beat up gas par car and I got the motor running but one of the hubs' splines are stripped out. Is this the same hub that the EZGO's use that strip out? Where can I find a cheap hub to replace it? I'm considering drilling through the axle and hub so I can put a 1/4" grade bolt through it, or is it even possible to drill through that axle shaft?
Otherwise, has anyone had success welding the hub to the axle shaft? -It's 24 spline. |

Re: Stripped out hub splines
Really? Are you serious? You want to weld the stripped out hub to the axle........why not try to find another hub?

Re: Stripped out hub splines
Because I don't want to buy a $50 hub for a $50 golf cart if I can get by with just welding it.

How are you going to keep from melting the axle seal?

Re: Stripped out hub splines
Stitch weld. I'd rather use a bolt though.
I found this for an ezgo, but it looks like the same thing I need. I'd rather go this route, price isn't too bad for this project. cartpartsplus.com/brake-hub-upgrade-for-ezgo-carts.html Will it fit? |

Re: Stripped out hub splines
The Hub you linked to fits a Dana 44 electric differential. It may fit your Par car if the same differential and axles are used?

Re: Stripped out hub splines
I discovered that the other hub has already been replaced by what looks like the above linked unit. I moved it to the passenger side and put the stripped out one on the driver side and welded a washer to it then welded the washer to the axle nut and used an allen wrench for the cotter pin. Drove it 10 miles around here on the sled trails and around the yard. Looks like the cart is going to be worth investing in a hub. I'll call that place in the morning and make sure it's going to be the same and get it coming.

Next step is either porting the stock engine or pull the 340 out of the enticer I've got laying in the back yard. |
