Cool Columbia Gas Drivetrain Conversion

My father has acquired a 1984, 3 wheel, gas, Columbia golf cart with a blown crank seal. In an old Murray rider, I have a 14HP B&S vertical with a shift-on-the-go type drive for speed options. Has anyone converted to an engine like this? Or maybe, it would be easier to use the rider's whole drivetrain after removing the original? I mainly repair American big twin motorcycles in my business, but also fix cars, mowers, weld/fab work, etc. of which my dad and girlfriend get involved with too. This is a side project for us that would be interesting (and make my dad happy). We don't golf, but we do go to motorcycle events, car shows and the like and something like this would be great to ride around on. Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge and experience.

It would be a lot easier to just repair the original engine and probably a lot more satisfactory!

Thank you and a Happy Easter to all. Yes, the engine needs to be split. Some times the main bearing goes South and the cage ruins the seal. Your engine really needs to be pulled, disassembled, cleaned, checked thoroughly, parts replaced and reassembled. It is not as hard as it sounds and will give you an engine that will last for years! I used to have a saying that I related to my children and hope it stuck. I will pass it on now.
