Default Question*** with pics***

Having some problems with the 1992 Columbia Parcar i just purchased... when i bought the cart it would fire but would not move... so i got the cart for cheap...took a quick look at the throttle on the carb when the gas was pressed and found out the reason why...

#1 in the picture.... the throttle return spring is missing. So when you press the gas the throttle does not open at all which in turn does not feed the carb any fuel at all.

The throttle return spring on this year of cart doesnt actually return the throttle to the closed position like most carts, it pulls the throttle open. The throttle cable is what pulls the throttle shut... so when the gas is pressed, it gives the throttle cable slack, which causes the spring to pull the throttle open, and when the gas pedal is released it pulls the cable tight and closes the throttle....

problem is, this return spring is not available anywhere! i have searched for days and made many phone calls... the part was discontinued in 2005 and the part is no where to be found, and i have yet to locate any spring that would work as a replacement as this particullar spring is the opposite of all the springs available (only springs available are bent/designed to hold the throttle closed instead of pull it open)

#2 in the picture.... since i could not find a replacement spring, i thought i would try to figure out a way to get the throttle to open when the gas is pressed.... which is why that spring is there... now this spring works to open the throttle cable, but there are 2 problems with it, since i couldnt place the spring directly behind the throttle so it would pull straight back i had to angle it so i had something to hook the spring to.... this caused the throttle to only open 3/4 of the way... the other problem is that the throttle cable (# 3 in the picture) does not have enough power to pull the throttle back to the closed position. Sometimes the throttle will only come half way back, and sometimes it wont come back at all causing the cart to be at 1/2 to 3/4 speed at all times.

#4 in the picture is where the spring would need to be mounted to be straight behind the throttle... i zip tied a spring tight to the frame right above that nut and hooked that to the throttle... that actually worked to pull the throttle to fully open, but once again the throttle cable did not have enough power to pull the throttle shut, so the cart was stuck at full speed at all times...

I checked the throttle cable to see if it needed adjusting, and according to the carts service manual it is set exactly how it is suppose to be...

does anyone know of a way i could rig something up to make the throttle open and close like its suppose to? im not all that mechanically inclined and am all out of ideas...

any help would be greatly appreciated!!

here are a couple more pics, just to get a little different angle...and in the pic above, the throttle is in the closed position only because i pulled the throttle back by hand...

The cable with the bellows looks to me like it opens the throttle. What is the one with the wire eyelet connected to? If it goes to a governor, you may have to play around with the length. I believe someone has " improvised " on this setup before! You should never have a spring to hold the throttle open and a cable to pull it shut! If the cable ever broke you'd have a runaway cart. Give me some time and I'll try and find something out for you. In the meantime, there are a few folks on here with Par Cars and I'm sure they will be glad to help!

The cable On the right hand side is forsure the throttle cable. When the gas is pressed it gives slack and thhe throttle is suppose to spring open. There was a governer cable attatched in the middle which I removed, and the cable on the left runns from the throttle to the front of the engine, which I beleve might be the rev limter, but can't tell you forsure. I am at work and on my phone so I cannot look at the manual I printed out at home to give you a forsure answer as to what that cable does...
As far as I know and juust from reading What I have in the manual, everything I explained in the 1st post is correct. But this is only the second cart I've ever worked on before, so I could be wrong. That metal loop on the end of the throttle cable is just connected to the flimsy throttle cable and when the gas pedal is pressed it gives slack and that loop just goes flimsy, so therefor it would be impossible for that setup to be able to push the throttle open. You could be right about someone changing the setup before I got the cart, but as far as I know, and according to the manual everything looks like its supposed to...
According to the manual everything is there that's suppose to be except the throttle shaft spring, but if you could finnd out any more info on whether I am correct or not, or hhave any ideas of a different setup that would work, that would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Any gunsmith will have a stock of piano wire and he can bend you a spring in 10 minutes if you have a picture or pattern. A little longer if he has the carb. in hand.
