I have an 87 Columbia 2 cycle motor....This is really gonna sound stupid but I need to know if this car has points and condenser and if so where it is located.

Okay found that answer now to see if anyone has an idea about why it runs for a minute then quits....spay fuel in carb and it starts back and runs a minute longer. Does the seals on the case have anyway of effecting the vacuum on the fuel pump????

I don't want to insult you at all but did you happen to pull the fuel line from the carb then see what happens when the engine turns over? There should be a pretty good squirt of fuel pulsing out of that line. The first time I did this on a properly running cart I was surprised by how much gas shot out.

I have no experience with an '87. Is that fuel pump electric or vaccum based? Assuming it's vacuum based then bad seals absolutely can affect fuel delivery. So can cracked or ill fitting fuel lines, worn gas cap threads, etc. That's a 25 year old cart. Air can be getting into that vacuum system a bunch of ways.

I worked on an '80 HD over the winter that, no matter what I did (new cranks seals, new fuel lines, carb rebuild, etc) it just wouldn't pump enough fuel to sustain continual combustion. Like yours, it would run a bit when I sprayed fuel in the carb or directly into the chamber via the spark plug hole but would stop when the fuel burned off. I installed an electric pump and the thing has been running like new ever since.

Here is the link to that post:

Again, I am not sure if this applies to an '87 Columbia but it might be worth a look.
