1990 gas starter solenoid
I have a 1990 gas par car 2 cycle that I just purchased with a no start condition. In no start it does not crank. The solenoid has tested bad but is new. I think the solenoid that was put on by the previous owner is not the correct one. Is there a wiring diagram to show how this solenoid should be wired? and I see different part that say something about a diode for the solenoid. Do I need this diode?
The Solenoid that is on the machine now has two small terminal marked as S and I. The S is getting a 12 volt signal from the pedal when pressed. The I terminal is grounded. There are two wires coming to the large post on the cold side of the solenoid and two wires going to the Hot side of the solenoid. Thanks for your help. |

Re: 1990 gas starter solenoid
It sounds like someone installed an old car solenoid. The 'S' should be hot when the pedal is pressed. The body of the solenoid should be grounded. Does the solenoid click when you have 12v on the 'S' terminal? The 'I' terminal should not be grounded. It is used on the older points-type systems in cars. I'm surprised you haven't blown a fuse or burned up a wire.
