90 ParCar cuts out while driving
I have a 1990 Columbia parcar. I just put a new top end in it and a bunch of other minor thing. The carb has been meticulously cleaned and the golf cart runs great. However, I am running it up and down my street testing it out and at higher speeds the engine will just stop like someone just turned the key off. I will stop for a second and then it will start back up and run. Once it cuts out the first time it will not take as long to cut out again. It like there is a high temp shut off on it but looking at the electrical schematic there isn't.
Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks |

check the vent in the gas tank.
if you installed rings without checking for proper end gap its most likely overheating. |

Re: 90 ParCar cuts out while driving
I'll check the vent in the cap. The ring gap is perfect. I've rebuilt many 2 stroke before. I'm thinking of disabling the oil injector and just premixing my gas. It does seem to be running hotter than I remember. Not sure if the injector is working right.

Problem solved! It was the accelerator micro-switch. While troubleshooting, I decided to bypass the switch with a piece of copper wire and no more stalling.

Re: 90 ParCar cuts out while driving
Correction! Although the contacts on the micro-switch were slightly bad the problem was still there after I cleaned it. I had bought a new ignition coil early on before I discovered it needed a new top end. I bought one from AutoZone that looked the same and I assumed that they were the same. So this evening I put the old one back on for the hell of it and after driving it for 1/2 hour with no issues I am going to call it successfully fixed. I hope this post will help someone in the future.
