I think fuel problem
Quick run 1988 cart rebuilt carb, new battery, new fuel pump, compression in mid 90s. The problem is it was running then I came to. A stop and tried to idle it into the garage for some tlc and it stop and will not start again. I checked there is spark. There is fuel coming through the pump to the carb. Was not sure thought mabye the float was stuck so removed carb dbl checked float setting just to be sure sprayed the carb down with cleaner and reinstalled. Pulled plug and cleaned it and pulled it again and cranking motor for a while plug almost seem dry. Any help would be great thanks

Re: I think fuel problem
Update I am get fuel so I double checked the spark and there was none thought I might have bumped a wire off so I test the coil there was power going to it and no spark still thought it might be coil any how so I replaced it. Still no luck only other thing was the ignition module so I got one off of a parts car that I bought. Set timing per book with the jumper wire. Now it runs great ....Until it gets warm. I ran it for probably 5 minutes or so tjen it shut off let sit for a minute or two and starts right back up and so on.
I was wondering if anyone has any ideas not sure what to do Thanks |

Re: I think fuel problem
Are all of the components grounded properly?Bad grounds can cause erratic running like you have explained. They get hot, shut down,cool-off and run again.Ignition-modules will also act that way when they are getting ready to call it quits.Hope this helps.

Re: I think fuel problem
Sometime the coil will open with heat. Did you use a new coil with an internal resistor?
If you used a coil that requires a resister the coil will burn or open. |

Re: I think fuel problem
I didnt at first then I read that I might need a coil with a resistor so ibought one of those and tried it and no luck I thick I burned up the ignition module so I was thinking about going to points but was not sure if I was able to with it being a 88 or not if the cam would allow it or not???

Re: I think fuel problem
They are convertible. See if you have the flywheel marks to set the timing .

Re: I think fuel problem
There should be flywheel marks 25 degrees before and after TDC. The marks are seen through a hole in the flywheel cover just under the coil. It is timed in forward and reverse. There are many instructions on the forum for timing and conversion.
