87 Columbia muffler replacement

In search of a replacement muffler for my 87 Columbia cart. Does anyone know of a reseller or manufacturer? Or a close substitute that would require little modification?

Check vintagegolfcartparts.com if you don't have any luck anywhere else. If you don't see one on their site give them a call. They probably have one and just didn't list it.

Don't go too crazy with putting any old muffler on there as a proper muffler is required to have the right compression.

Thanks Lochlin Vintage shows the part is no longer available. Not sure if the muffler is my problem but the cart starts off running good then acts like its flooding out. If I take the muffler off it opens up and runs much better. I'm still thinking carbration even after a cleaning and kit. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated.

Those mufflers don't go bad very often but it can happen.

You may not be getting proper fuel delivery. If the cart starts out ok then dies off that often means that, once the cart is needing more gas (after torqueing up) it isn't getting enough to sustain things. This can easily be mistaken for flooding out. I would try a new fuel pump. They are cheap and simple to put on. Pretty much any 3 line vacuum pump will work for your cart. Those pumps really aren't cart specific.

Now, those pumps use engine vacuum to work right and properly sealed engines are essential. A lot of people, me included, convert to electric fuel pumps which pretty much removes the engine seals from the equation. There a few posts here concerning how to do this. It's an easy process.

That the cart runs better with the muffler off might also indicate fuel delivery. Muffler off means less engine compression. Less engine compression means less fuel needed to operate BUT power will be reduced as a result.

Did you happen to check your compression, muffler on AND off? You should be right around 90 with the muffler on but anything over 80 should be doable.

Thanks again. Compression is not the problem. I took the fuel line off to the carb and it seems to be pumping enough fuel. I replaced all the fuel lines and checked the pickup in the tank with no change in how it runs. The other thing is that adjusting the power needle makes no change in how it runs.

Installed electric fuel pump and still no. Change in how it runs. I am at a loss on what to try next. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Having you checked for proper timing? If you do a forum search you'll find a lot of posts concerning how to properly time these carts. Good timing is essential on these carts.

You are getting gas and spark. Compression is good. I can't think of anything other than timing or your carb.
