Default 01 ezgo txt 350 surging going uphill

has anyone ever come across the engine surging going uphill? on level ground the cart runs fine, no complaints at all.
take it offroad a bit...going uphill the engine surges and the rpms shoot up almost like it leaning out a bit.
i do have an electric fuel pump installed with a fueld pressure regultor set @ 1.5
ive tried different settings (from 1-4) and dont notice much difference...not sure if the surging issue would be related.....

maybe the belt slipping somehow? im thinking the motor revs up as the belt slips on the pulleys giving that surge feeling. whats the belt look like? ive seen it once on a sled where the primary was slipping in the tapered shaft but there was a lot more power in the sled though. doesn't hurt to check though. whats the belt look like

I'm leaning towards drivetrain too, not a running issue - the slipping belt of course would be the first likely culprit, a weak clutch spring *might* also cause the clutch to fail to hold under the stress of a hill, allowing it to open up a bit and change the ratio ...

Does it do it at lower RPM's as in You're just starting to go up a hill from a stop and it surges, or is it happening at higher revs meaning You're cruising along at a good clip, hit a hill and as it's trying to downshift a bit to get up it suddenly it surges? I hope I asked that correctly, LOL, but that info *would* help the diagnosis a bit.

Measure the width of your belt first, 1 1/8" is what You're looking for, any less then I would definitely start with a new belt (and if You're doing that, go 1/2" to 1" shorter than stock, the added torque is a nice bonus)

thanks for the suggestions. i'll check the belt when i get home. the surging is definitely more noticeable when at a steady cruise then hit a hill compared to stopped on a hill then give it some gas.
