Noob with a New 2002 EZ GO TXT with Robins 295CC and 2 Questions

Howdy,

Just upgraded to a 2002 EZ Go TxT with the 295CC Robins/Subaru Engine. Love the cart, it came with most of the bells and whistles. I've already printed off the service and owner's manuals (at work of course).

When starting it cold I have to use the choke until it warms up a bit. Is this fixable? I read a few posts stating that this is common in the 295CC but was fixed in the 350CC?

After it warms up it runs like a top. Could a carb-clean help this problem or is that just the way it is on these?

Also I have the typical governor question. Do these have them and can they be altered to get a little extra top end speed? I didn't see any threads on the this particular engine type.

Anyways, glad to be part of the site and look forward to lurking around in here.

Hopefully someone will be along to advise on the cold start. My 97/350 (which is not the same as yours) rarely needs the choke unless its freezing outside.

as far as choke goes when cold , its just a fact of life , if the cart just started cold without it you would be dumping to much fuel when warm, the choke allows more fuel into the engine and less air to get the cart to fire , have you ever tried to light a lighter that has been left out in the in the cold , its near impossible to do it. and that is because cold air and fuel are not easily vaporized at low tempatures so more fuel is added to make up for the reduction of "absorbition" of the fuel into the air. most times i will just put the cart in netural and use the choke to run the cart for a minute or so to get the engine heated up and then take my foot off the gas and let it shut off and shift into gear and go , otherwise these engine will spit and sputter and have fits till it warms up . You have to keep in mind they were never designed to be used in low temps otherwise they would have implemented an electric choke like you find on most atv utvs, so warm it up and go on with your day , now if you have to do this even after you have it warmed up a bit the you need to look into cleaning the carb out . but as far as using the choke on a cold day its just how it is and was for over 100 years prior to fuel injection and electric or automatic chokes, everything had choke on it

Ditto Both my carts needed choke for cold starts and first few minutes and then ran and restarted like tops.

I think we need to define cold? Cold temps, cold engine, what exactly.

Mine requires a lot of choking if sits for long period of time. For example between weekends. But during the same weekend the cart usually fires up easily. I assume the fuel has gravitated back to the fuel tank during long period.

Cart definitely harder to start during winter than during summer.

Looks like I've got a healthy cart then. Although I'm in San Antonio, Tx it's pretty cold down here now.
