I'm trying to help a coworker speed his cart up. Does anyone have pictures of what to show him to adjust. I think its the 2 nuts I have a club car so I'm no help. Its a 2012 gas ezgo. Thanks a lot

It is the nuts on the governor/throttle cable. Shortening the cable will make the cart faster but, there have been other threads on here that have cautioned against messing with that too much because it can lead to the gears flying apart in those newer carts.

I would still be careful with getting too much out of that cart. Unless he wants to replace the rear end due to failure.

Cowboy is entirely correct - the governors on the Kawi-drivetrain carts have plastic internal gearing, and have been known to grenade at anything above factory settings (in fact, with the new carts, ANY adjustment to the governor instantly voids your warranty if the cart still has one) ...

On stock 18's that cart is governed at about 13mph, so if he's still only getting 13mph with 22's there very likely something amiss, the driven clutches on that year were recalled so I would check the end of the clutch for wear. The general problem with those clutches involves the groove at the end of the clutch that the clip holding the clutch together rides in wears out and the clip eventually lets go along with the 2 halves of the clutch - but if it's worn out and hasn't yet detonated, it could possibly be keeping the clutch from opening fully.

The first obvious thing to do is inspect the clip and groove at the end of the clutch for visible signs of wear or damage, then what I would do is jack the cart up SECURELY and watch the clutches throughout their full range of motion, making sure the driven opens completely ... If all looks and acts good, then a *slight* bump to the governor might be OK but on 22's I would stay at a max speed of 16mph or under in order to stay within the factory designed specs and avoid potential failure.

My 2015 EZ-GO Express S4 does 19mph off the showroom floor with 22" tires. (The owners manual says it is set at 17.5mph) My cart came from the factory with a TEAM clutch... not sure about 2012's but I think he has the "other" clutch setup.
Yes, the governors in the Kawasaki equipped carts use plastic gears so I don't recommend going super fast until the rear end can be taken apart and the governor eliminated.

Ok... after further research...
I cannot seem to find anything, anywhere about anyone having problems with governor gears exploding in these Kawasaki powered carts. I would think that in the last 7 years of production that there would be at least a few people out there complaining about this.
Anyone?...
