Default 4 stroke Flywheel key mod

Has anyone done this mod ?? Does it work ?? Is it worth the cost and time?? I've searched this forum and cannot locate an answer.. I would believe it advances the engine timing and thus would increase bottom end, however it would in turn hurt top end although I don't know its noticeable...wink:

It is done on the vtwin engines but is fairly pointless to do on the Robins engine cause of the rev limiter

the reason the key mod won't work on the ez go 4 cycle is that the key is only 0.120 thick leaving no room to mill!

the only way i found to change the timing [with out spending 500.00] is to mill the mounting boss back were the pulser coil mounts and making a plate with slotted holes and moving the pulser to get your timing ajustments,

Tod how much do you think it helped??? Is it one of those things that by itself is not a big deal but with other mods help in the total outcome ???

In the lawnmower engines we used to run advancing the briggs help top end but hurts torque ,, and retarding the flywheel helps torque and hurts rpm ,,, the engines use the same key as the 5 hp go cart engines , unless you are running hi performance parts all the way the difference isn't all that noticeable , because it usually shows up at the top and you usually have to let up on the throttle before you top out ,
