Talking 1991 GAS GX444 Marathon

Hello all just got a 1991 EZGO GX444 Marathon. The cart has sat for 4 years so i have a lot of questions. I have replaced rotted wires, cleaned the gas tank, replaced terminal cables, replaced fuel filter, and getting ready to replace the battery and the air intake hose. The butterfly flap and the carb look pretty clean. My questions are where does the oil go? The cart has one Spark plug and i cant find any oil fill locations. How hard is it to clean the compression fuel pump? The hoses dont seem to be rotten or cracked. What other minor work or items should i replace before buying the battery? Also what is the best battery to use on a 1991 GAS GX444 EZGO Marthon? The guy that had it before me had driven it with a oil/gas mix.

Unhappy Re: 1991 GAS GX444 Marathon

I have taken the fuel pump off and taken it apart to find that it was all gunked up inside. I have cleaned it but noticed that one side had a liquid like oil or runny lubricant any one know what that is so i can replace it if its needed. Thanks.

That's likely just oil that's separated. Nothing should be in there.

That cart at one time would have had an oil tank and an injector that sent it into the carb. It's a 2 stroke engine and the prior owner probably was mixing gas and eliminated the oil injection. Mix your gas at 128:1 and you'll be fine.

Just taking a wild guess, The carb is probably dirty and gunked up. I would pull the carb off and give it a very thorough cleaning. Also check the float level. The fuel you are seeing sounds like its coming from the vent to the fuel bowl. If the float is adjusted too high, or if the inlet valve is stuck closed, it will spit fuel out of the vent. Sounds like the good news is the fuel pump is working well.

You all are awesome and appreciate all the info. Okay it was the float. Its fixed now but it still isnt turning over. I have spark, so i am thinking about replacing the carb. I am not very carb or engine savy. FYI: The oil pump has been removed and the oil is mixed in the gas now. Fuel is getting into the bowl but not sure if it is getting to where it needs to fire. Any ideas on how to check this? Also could it be the igniter causing it not to start. I can spray carb cleaner and get it to run for a second or two.

When you say "turning over" do you mean it is cranking but not running? If you pull the plug after you have been cranking it, is it wet? The carb has many passages and needs a thorough cleaning. If it has any trash in it, you'll have problems.

YAAAA! Shes running, seems the beast wants go but the governor is holding her back. What is the proper way to adjust the governor or to take it off?
