2003 ezgo hard to start

Hi all.
Can someone shed some light for me please.
I have a 2003 ezgo with 295cc Robin engine. The problem is its a bitch to start when its cold. I have replaced the plugs and have a good spark. I have replaced the carb with a new one, reset the valves and replaced the air cleaner. I have check the fuel line and there is plenty of fuel getting up to the carb. Don't know what else I can do. Once the engine has started it runs perfectly but it is running to rich as the plugs get very black and sooty in a short time.
I know the mixture needs adjusting but it has no mixture screws on it. The only thing that I can see is a small plastic cam like thing on the top of the carb which is set in the middle position but it can be moved a quarter turn to the left or right. It also has three port on the side of which I have the fuel feed in the middle one. Can anyone shed some light on this as well.
Any help would be very much appreciated

I can't help with your problem but if I understand correctly, the other two ports on the carb are gas overflows should the needle valve stick open. mine are smaller diameter and turn down.

choke stuck shut? restricted exhaust? does it smoke black when running warm? or have a hard time running at wot?

Thanks for that AARON the valve must be ok because nothing comes out of them.

No AAron when its warm it runs like a dream. The only thing I can think of is that it runs to rich. Its very easy to flood when trying to start it from cold.

mine has a needle under a screw on the top of the carb which might be your air fuel adjustment maybe take that cap screw off and see if you can figure out how that works?

Thanks for the post. There is a screw on the top of the carb with a copper washer but it is only the cover for a jet. There dosnt seem to be any adjustment on the needle though its screwed hard down I tried to screw it back but there is no spring on it as I would expect it to have if it were for adjusting. The only thing is the small black cam that can be moved through 180% but this dosnt seem to have any effect on the way the engine runs.
I have checked the choke and it is working as it should and the exaust dosnt seem to have a problem.
Maybe its just one of those engines that dosnt like to start when its cold the annoying thing is that other boys come along and they don't have a problem.

Same as mine the one in the middle is larger.

The screw with the black 180 turn on it is a low speed mixture screw. Should be about 1 1/4 out from seated if my memory serves me right.
