Default 98 ezgo oil in air filter box

New to golf carts but just bought a 98 ezgo with robin engine. It runs good and motor seems to have been maintained. But just recently it has started filling the air filter housing with oil. It doesn't seem to have any blow-by and doesn't smoke unless the filter housing gets enough oil in it. Can a partially clogged air filter cause this?? Or am I looking at bigger issues?

Welcome to BGW. First thing, did you use the search feature of this board? This question has been asked time and time again. Is the cart lifted? If so the dipstick is incorrect. Can only put 1.5 qts of oil in it. The oil comes from the crank case breather. If these carts get lifted the angle of the engine changes and if overfilled (more than a quarter and a half) will blow out into the filter. Hey admins, can we do a write up and answer this common question in the tech forums or make it a sticky?

Thanks for the info. Yes it is lifted. Will try draining and refilling the crankcase and see how it goes.

Ok, drain it and refill with exactly 1.5 qts. Then scribe the dipstick which is the new "ccorrect" measurement

I 'discovered' this problem when I picked up a lifted cart with a blown engine. After the rebuild I filled it to the 'full' mark on the dipstick.

A google search pointed me here with the description of the problem and the solution.

As sccowboy mentions, be sure to mark the new 'full' level on the dipstick.

I finally got a chance to drain and refill my cart today. Did some extensive neighborhood cruising, then let my 13 yr old son loose on it. So far so good. Thanks for the good info
