Is this a good deal?
Looking for a gas golf cart. Found this one on Craig's list. In Palm Springs. 2003 Ezgo. Since I am a new member I have to wait 7 days in order to provide a link to the Craigslist add. Here is a cut and paste of what the seller listed:
"She's a real gem! Gas powered with a 350cc motor. She's a 2003 but you would never know it. Always garage kept and driven by a little old lady. Almost mint condition. This price is for a quick sale and it is firm so please dont make an offer. The price is what it says. Call or text. Thank you" I spoke with him. He inherited it from his Grandmother that passed away. He says it runs really well. Used around her neighborhood only and garaged. The rear seat flips down to make a cargo bed. What do you guys think? Is this a good motor? I am just going to use it around my RV park at the Colorado River. No plans to offroad, although there are plenty around me. Here are some pictures he texted me. Thanks for your help. |

What is he asking for it? The 350cc (11 HP) engine is one of the best they have made. The cart appears to be in really good shape. Lots of accessories out there to build it out the way you want it. Search the web for that year model and see what others are paying for them.

Re: Is this a good deal?
That's strange that a standard 2002 TXT would have the 350, they came stock with the 295 (the 350 that year was put in the ST and MPT models) ... If You can confirm that it's the 350 then I would say grab it, that's a great motor and a great cart, plenty of power (and if You need more, swapping to a 28deg clutch is about an hour and well under $100)

Re: Is this a good deal?
The easiest way to tell the ST and MPT from the TXT is that they have a different front cowl. The TXT cowl is slanted toward the front, with lights either cut into the front corners or no lights. The ST and MPT share the type of front cowl of the Workhorse carts. They come out flat and have headlight buckets molded into them. The cowl also has some grill slots in the front of it. The ST carts and some MPTs also have a small factory lift of about two inches, or so. The cart in your photo definitely looks like a TXT. The engines look very similar, so it would be hard to tell which size it is from photos, without looking further into the serial numbers on the engine itself. The deal sounds pretty good to me, would probably bring more than $2000 in my area. Those Robin engines, either the 295 or 350, run well and are dependable.

Re: Is this a good deal?
That's definitely a TXT, You're going to have to look on the engine sticker (should be on the timing belt cover, it has a bar code with the model and serial over it) it'll say EH295c or EH350c on it as the 2002/3's had the MCI engines. This is a picture of a TXT front end
redlift.jpg And here's the MPT/ST front end, they were used on the ST, ST Sport, MPT, Oasis, and Workhorses (as well as several year Cushman Commanders and Jacobsen Haulers) - In this case it's on an MPT 2007MPT_01.jpg There's a chance that the cart was an ST and had the cowl swapped due to damage or ??? (unlikely) or it's has the original 295 replaced with a 350 (not very likely) or its' actually got the EH295c and not the 350 that he is stating. Either way, good engines. The 350 has an extra 2hp but that's about it - if You can, also look at the trans side of the rear clutch, it'll have either "36" or "28" cast into it - that tells You which clutch it has, either 36 or 28 degree (both good clutches, but the 28 provides almost 30% more applied torque). Even the pre-MCI (2001.5 and down) 295 and 350's are good (some say better than the MCI's because they leave more options for performance mods on the cheap and are just as bulletproof). Either way, I'd take a good solid look at the drivetrain and use that to help You decide, there's a chance the guy really did inherit the thing and knows nothing of what he's describing. At $2k, with either engine/clutch combo in clean condition, rear seat, etc it's an "average" price for a 2003 so I'd personally keep looking if anything seems hokey with the deal but if the cart looks and runs good it's likely a good find. |
