EZGO Gas Engine - Type of Fuel??
Hey All, I have a question and I know its a ridiculous question but I guess I'm just confused. I just traded my electric cart for a gas powered cart. It is an early version EZGO, i believe a marathon. I was told that it was a 2 stroke engine which is fine however I was then told that it takes regular gas and not a mixture in the tank. I was always under the impression that all two strokes had to be gas and oil mixture. Now he did say that there was a separate two stroke oil reservoir. Im just confused on how this can be so. Does it mix it for you or was I wrong to think that all two strokes had to be a mixture of gas and oil?
Thanks |

Re: EZGO Gas Engine - Type of Fuel??
Welcome to BGW!!! It is indeed a two stroke, if it's an early Marathon, and there is indeed an oil reservoir SEPARATE from your gas tank.
There is an oil pump driven by your crank that pumps oil into an injection port in the manifold and mixes with the gas to provide lubrication for the engine. The sage wisdom of many here says to ditch the oil pump and all related equipment, plug the port in the intake for the oil, and then drain the gas tank and premix your own fuel at a mix of 128:1, or 1 oz. per gallon. This is so you KNOW the engine is getting mixed fuel because the pumps have been known to fail on the lean side and melt down your top end quickly while starving the bottom end of lubrication. |

Re: EZGO Gas Engine - Type of Fuel??
Awesome, Thanks for the information. Is it that difficult to remove the oil pump and just do a gas and fuel premix? It seems that that probably would be the safest option. How long do these two stroke motors usually last in these EZGO's? Like i stated in my original post I traded my electric cart for it and I was very happy with it so far. It seemed on my electric ezgo it struggled and bogged down as soon as it hit an incline. With the gas motor it seems to take the inclines with no problem.
