88 EZGO Won't Turn Over

Hi guys,

Just picked up an 88 EZGO yesterday. The engine won't start.

So far we've:

Air filter is clean
We have spark
Gas is getting to the carb
Gas is getting to the plug (it's wet after trying to start)
Carb is clean and float is working
All other electrical components are working (lights, horn, etc.)

What should we check next? When pressing the gas the engine trying to start but doesn't quite turn over.

I think the battery is good but I'm not sure. I could try boosting it and see if that makes a difference. I really don't want to have to rebuild the engine...

Mine is an 98 TXT and mine sorta did something similar. Double check you voltage at the battery and make sure that all you electrical connections are good. And just a thought....the motor is free correct? Can you turn it over by hand??

I'll check the voltage and connections.

The motor isn't stuck all the belts move it just won't engage.

ok...yes check the battery and connections and then let us know what you have. These guys on this board are amazing so I am sure you can get help.

are we dealing with an 88 two stroke , if so then here's where we start

1 check compression need at least 100lbs
2 replace spark plug ( old plugs known to not spark under pressure )
3 check crank seals
let us know where you get with that

also one other thing , disconnect the exhaust and try to start it , sometimes a plugged exhaust can cause this to happen then you would need to read up on bbq mufflers on here
