Default 1989 dies when hot

had it running on jack stands and when it backfired saw smoke come out of the cylinder fins thinking the main seal under the fly wheel bad wd40 behind the clutch did not effect the running did the hei conversion and made it run better untill it gets hot how much up and down play should be in the main bearing

There should be no play in the bearing

I was going to set up with a dial indicator to check it . Can you get the bearings and seals from a local bearing house if so what is the C R part number for seals ? Are there any special tools to split the case's ? I am a retired HD mechanic . Had several American made Harley 2strokes the cart motor seems very smiler back in the 60's looking forward to working on the engine.

Threebond 1184 is what I use on case halves.
1194/1104 were the earlier formulations.

You need three of the 6206 bearings. You can use the 2rs versions, cheaper, and pluck the seals out. $5-10/ea depending on country of manufacture.

Thanks for the info that is what I used just could not remember. I have the bearings found them on ebay for 8 dollars each. Waiting for the seals and gaskets to come. Will probably pull it apart next week. Has any one built a puller to split the cases?
