'85 Ez-go
A buddy of mine just bought a '85 EZ-GO cart, which came to him in pieces. I know little about it at this time, and was hoping to pick up some info. Here is what little I know about it at this time. The motor is out of it, he says because the motor mounts are broken. We suspect what is broken ois only the starter bracket. I'm pretty sure this is a 2 cycle engine. Anyone have an idea of the engine size? Also, how does the forward/reverse work on these? I thought they were cable actuated, with a cable from the F/R selector to the transmission. This appears to be a powered switch. Does it somehow reverse polarity, activate a solenoid, etc?
Thanks for any insight that can be offered as to this cart. |

Re: '85 Ez-go
If it is a 2 stoke they run forward for forward and you guessed it....backwards for reverse

Re: '85 Ez-go
I'm sure it is a two stroke, I just do not know what engine size. Another question, assuming this has the original engine, is it something worth keeping, or would I need to look at swapping for another engine, either larger 2 cycle or change to a 4 cycle. If a change is recommended, what size to change to?

Re: '85 Ez-go
Your engine is more than likely a 244cc, 9hp. I am in the process of rebuilding the same size engine. You can get all the parts you need to rebuild from the sponsors of this forum. If I were you, I would repair the starter bracket, re-install the engine, check for compression, check for spark, check to see if you can get gas to the engine. If you can get most of these, I would consider a rebuild. But, it is your decision to make. If you are REAL lucky, the broken bracket may be your only problem.

Re: '85 Ez-go
Change to a 4 stroke requires a different rear end with a F&R ....
