Default Direction Needed For Cart Build

Hi, I am new to the forum but have been browsing for some time. I recently acquired a couple older Marathons. One is a good running, nice shape 87 model. The other a 90 with I believe a blown engine ( haven't had time to inspect) but all complete in so so shape. My original plan was to lift the 87 a but and customize it. The 2pg seems strong and I don't think the cart has that many hours. I was thinking of stripping the 90 to use the front end in my 87 and various other parts. My original idea was to make a passenger trailer out of the 90 that matched the 87. Anyways I'm wondering if I should be rebuilding the 3pg and using the 90 as the platform for my cart or put my time into the 87 model. I am hoping to do a mild lift with air, tunes and some motor and clutch work to turn bigger rubber. Any input would be great. Is it a huge improvement to have the updated rear diff that's in the 90? Was the 3pg less reliable. Thanks.

This is what I have to start.. The 87. Also wondering if this cart will have the power to pull a passenger trailer without heating. We have a cabin at a resort lake and I'm wanting to use it there. Some hills. I currently have a 3 wheeled 2pg ezgo there. No governor and if you hold it for a lap around the lake it runs pretty hot. I do intend to clutch it down a little for torque. Any input is appreciated!

The 87 has the same 2pg as your 3 wheeler. So same power.

The 90 has the 3pg. Everything says it has more power. Sure its not a 91?

I am not sure about the 90 rear end but if it has a mechanical reverse gear and mounts the engine with the clutches in the same direction as the axle then you could big block it. See the install pictures. This kit is what i would do if you have this style axle. WAY more power.

If you are willing to spend some money, you can help your heat issue. Contact Swain coatings. If you have the piston deck and chamber coated with thermal barrier, it will help keep heat out of the motor and help you make more power. We used these coats, and more, on the Pro Stock car. Don't know how much they will help you, but willing to bet would be worth while. Can't remember how much it costs, but probably in the ball park of $75 to do both parts.
