1985 EZGO No Power
So I got a 1985 EZGO a couple of weeks ago. It seemed a little sluggish on hills so the first thing I did was replace the belts that I'm pretty sure were original to the cart
The cart actually seems slower and even worse on hills. I just tested the compression and it's showing 110-115 so from what I've read here that's excellent for this old boy. When I pulled the plug it had a lot of carbon on it so I'm thinking that a tune up is the next step and I might as well replace all of the fuel lines while I'm at it. Any other suggestions as to what to look for to put some pep in it's step? |

You have good compression, and it runs. That puts you way ahead of the curve.
There is the off chance that the exhaust is getting plugged. That would slow you down, but I am really leaning towards one of the clutches not operating properly. Here is your manual. |

Re: 1985 EZGO No Power
Thank You, The Drive clutch seems to be working properly. It starts off fully extended and when I pull out of the driveway it moves inward tightening the belt. I don't know what to look at on the driven clutch.
I'd say my mechanical skill level is probably 5-6 |

Put new plugs in it - and some fresh fuel - Always start with the simplest solution and work towards the more difficult ones.
Did you put the same belt on you took off? |

No, I bought brand new belts. I'll change the plug, fuel lines, and filters next. I'm just hoping to find them locally.

The driven clutch works the opposite of the drive clutch.
It could also be a dragging brake. |

Top speed is around 17 mph with stock tires, and no governor.
check the speed with a gps to see what you are getting. |
