295 Robin oil leak
It's leaking on the timing belt end of the engine. I suspect it is a seal of some kind. Can this be repaired without removing the engine?
Thanks, Wayne |

Re: 295 Robin oil leak
Just from my experience with the robins, I believe you can put the crank and cam seals in without removing the engine.. However, the engine is very easy to remove and it would be a lot easier on your back to just bench the engine and do it... Not to mention, the head gasket may be letting a little oil by and then you would have to remove the engine anyway.. IMHO, bench the engine that way you can be sure you find and fix the leak and you can adequately inspect the rest of the engine for leaks from somewhere else..

Yep super easy to pull the engine. IIf you're going to get into it, it's way easier to pull it out and work on it.

Re: 295 Robin oil leak
Looks like removing the engine is the best way to go. Are there any special tools required to remove and replace the seal(s)? Thanks!

Re: 295 Robin oil leak
No. Once you get the engine apart, just use a regular seal puller like what you can get from Harbor Freight.

Re: 295 Robin oil leak
Other than the seal, I really have no reason to disassemble the engine. It is a low hours rebuild that is in great shape other than the oil leak. Do I need to go any deeper than removing the timing belt cover?

Re: 295 Robin oil leak
I am not sure if you can pull the crank seal with the crank in place.

Re: 295 Robin oil leak
If memory serves, the plate containing the seals is the side to the engine... You remove the timing cover, belt, cam and crank gear and then the rear timing belt cover... Remove the bolts holding the side cover off and gently remove the side cover... You will need that gasket for the side cover... It's not a bad job.. Just go to the tech section and make sure your timing is right upon reassembly... Removing the side plat will expose the inside of the engine: crank and balancer... As long as you keep the timing marks on those gears correct it's not that bad... You can do it bro...

Go to the tech section of this site and grab the engine service guide. It literally walks you throughtthe whole thing. Not difficult to accomplishat all oif you are slightly mechanically inclined. Really..... Its easier than you think.
