97 Txt Gas Ezgo
just finished rebuild replacing rods, pistons, rings valve seals, valves, timing belt. Initially it ran good, but after approximately 30 minutes it would barely run above idle. Replaced ignitor, pulsar coil and coil. Now will only run with the front of the air box removed and air filter removed. Installed another carb with same results. Any suggestions appreciated

Did you check after the poor running issues?

Re-checked compression. 125 on each cylinder. my compression gauge in hard to get a good reading because of worn boot

Re: 97 Txt Gas Ezgo
125 is still a little low with a new build but should run without much issue... Seeing as it runs fine without the air box and filter then restriction is an issue... Does it run fine in neutral or is it running fine with load on it? No air box or filter... Cleaning the carb to ensure air mix passages are clear might be an issue...

Re: 97 Txt Gas Ezgo
Thanks for your reply. Have not really tried it under load. Just up on jack. Have tried three different carbs. Going to set valves and try again late today.

Re: 97 Txt Gas Ezgo
Just reset valves and checked float level in carb. Still will barely run above cranking speed. Rechecked compression. Still around 125. What puzzles me is that the cart ran fine for a couple hours after rebuild. Then stalled and would barely run above cranking speed. After sitting for a day the cart ran fine for 30 minutes, then stalled and would only run just above cranking speed. Now even with the air box open and filter removed it will rev up once then back to low speed. If I close choke it dies.
