Solenoid melting 95 EZ-GO
New to the Forum...I appreciate experience in this area......The thing is this, after the most recent solenoid melted, I noticed a big healthy spark from the battery post when I disconneced the terminal-even though the switch was off, charger disconnected, acc pedal up, and gear selector N...It would be reasonable to me that no current would be available at the battery when all switches were off...what is the sequence of things to check?
Again, THANKS!!! |

Re: Solenoid melting 95 EZ-GO
Hey there,
The solenoid was replaced with an original equipment part...but the real concern is that power is on all the time at the battery and therefore the solenoid...is that normal? Thanks |

Re: Solenoid melting 95 EZ-GO
NO power to the solenoid should not be on all of the time ..... mine clicks on and off with the gas paddle micro . Jon can tell you exactly how it is supposed to be wired but a solenoid is an electromagnetic switch ..... not a wire connector

Re: Solenoid melting 95 EZ-GO
There's a lot of confusion about this matter. Hopefully this will clarify matters a bit.
Most golf cart solenoids are closed (engaged) while the engine is running. This is different from regular cars, whereby the solenoid is engaged just to turn the engine and disengages after the engine is running (after you let go of START on the key switch and the key goes back to the ON position). IOW, as soon as you press the accelerator pedal on a stock engine on MOST golf carts (EZ-GO, Columbia, Club Car) the solenoid is engaged and its stays this way until you let go of the gas pedal. This is the main reason why you CAN'T and SHOULDN'T use automotive solenoids on golf carts. You will basically burn them up in a short time because automotive solenoids are not designed for continuous engagement. IN short, please check that you are using OEM parts. If that is not the case, then that is the reason why your solenoid was burnt. Otherwise, you have a more complex problem at hand... voltage regulator... If you are a bit more curious about the inner workings of the electrical system, then you can download the Repair and Service Manual from this forum, and check page L-2. |

Re: Solenoid melting 95 EZ-GO
Hey there,
Thanks for the info, the solenoid was replaced with a cart solenoid, and I do need to see the service and repair manual mentioned, but I haven't been able to find it on the forum... Again, Thanks, Scott |

Re: Solenoid melting 95 EZ-GO
Check:
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/ezgo-...iagram-id.html I don't know if these diagrams coincide with your model number. Nonetheless, this is the best source of information, manuals and diagrams on the internet... As I mentioned in my previous post, it MIGHT be the case that the solenoid is not the problem. I just wanted to set the record straight regarding the difference between regular automotive solenoids and cart solenoids, since there seems to be a lot of confusion on the matter. You might have a more complicated matter at hand, that could be related to short circuits, voltage peaks, so on and so forth... |

Re: Solenoid melting 95 EZ-GO
Hey there,
Thanks for the reply, but it appears that the links on this page refer to gas-powered carts, while the cart in question is electric -powered... Thanks, Scott |

Re: Solenoid melting 95 EZ-GO
That is because you posted this in the "ezgo gas" section start over in the ezgo electric section...GC Solenoid function rules still apply Good luck
