Default Lots of questions.

We just bought an 02 EZgo TXT that is in rough shape. It had the 295 engine with a broken rod on the driver side piston. Decided to swap out the smaller engine and install an 18hp Duramax with electric start. Since I plan on running my ignition from the dash panel to the built on starter, is there a reason to use the old starter and pulley?

Second question: What is a good paint (not rattle can) to use to paint the body panels. I would like to do a good job, but I haven't painted plastic before. What all chemicals and ratios should I use for my HVLP gun to paint these?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm just guessing here because I haven't done a 18 hp swap but the stock generator/starter has to go completely.. The new engine I am guessing comes with its own starter and key switch.. I would assume you would just move the switch to the dash panel and wire it back into the existing spot on the engine..

The paint I can maybe help.. I have done all three methods and each has it's merit.. The Krylon Fusion for plastic isn't a bad paint to use.. It works, however it is a spray can job but does look well if the body is scuffed and prepped properly... Secondly, a base/clearcoat is time consuming but is a finish that looks great.. Every can that gets mixed has a mixing ratio on the label and can be ratioed with a mixing cup that the paint store can provide.. It's very easy to understand when you see the cup and I'm sure the paint store associate can help you with that... You Tube is a great teacher to learn base and clear mixing amounts. Third, which I have found to be the easiest and still has a great finish is a single stage... I recommend scuffing with a scotch pad on all three methods for proper adhesion with the additional application of a primer before painting.. Single stage is the paint, activator, hardener and clear all in one sweep. Keep in mind, ambient temperature and conditions around you will affect any of the above three methods as far as ratios and mixing is concerned. If you are in a controlled environment, no wind or undesirable temperatures, then you can come out with a great paint job.. Hope this helps...

Thanks Ez. I guess I should have added that the previous owner spray painted it, and not very well. As for the mixing...I have painted a few cars, but never plastic that flexes. Single stage is no good since the wife wants some airbrush work. I planned on base/graphic/clear.

Even with the spray paint, I have scuffed over that with an orbital sander very lightly and scuffed with a 3m pad until the desired surface condition felt good... A primer next help smooth out and even the surface for application of the base..

You can also check out AutoZone for their premixed paints. Decent color selection too. For 30 bucks a qt. It's already premixed with hardener etc. and it's basically a stir and shoot. They also carry self etching primer as well. Just another option.

Thanks again Ez. And Thanks Johnny. I didn't know they had premixed. I've always used Nason base and just mixed it myself. The premix would be a huge time saver.
