In side the rear is the little weight that spin around and when they get to spinning to fast it pulls back through the lever on the cable going to the engine. The spring on the cable coming from the throttle allows for this movment and lets the gov do this. by tightening up the spring you are taking away some amount of movement the gov. can pull the cable. so what your basically doing by tightening the spring is not letting or limiting the amount the gov. can effect the system.
I always adjust them to where they won't dog out but not so much that it starts hitting the rev limiter. it'll probably take a few adjustment to get it where you like it, just try not to go so far your hitting the rev limiter (it starts sputtering)

Hello Jon & Co,

Some to think of, when you are going realy much faster.....

In the Honda GX (and maybe others) there is the same principle of revlimiter.
When the engine has to go more than say 5000 revs they build the whole system out and not only ty it up.

This because the Honda system wil tear in 1000 pieces and so damage the engine....

I don't know if the limiter in your differential will tear apart when your going MUCH faster, but i would be carefull.

Hi Benno, welcome to BGW. There have been a few come apart and cause damage. I don't know whats the "safe" rpm range for the cart rearends but its got to be pretty high or we'd be hearing about alot more tore up rear ends

Recently picked up a 01 cart. When I got it my GPS said top speed was 10.5 mph. Still had the factory seal for the governor setting. Made the governor adjustment without a hitch. Now runs 17.5 mph (as fast as I felt safe with). The only thing is my rear looks like the first picture on the opening post, not the second that says it's an 01 forward. What gives? According to my tag it shows G 101. I thought that says it's a 2001 model. Think the rear end was changed somewhere along the way?
Nice web site. Thanks all for the information a newbe like me needs.

Hello Everyone;
I just purchased a 2002 E-Z GO TXT. I have read the tips on how to adjust the governor and will try it next weekend when i am back at the camp site. I am looking forward to reading more posts.

Thanks

I ran mine in almost all the way and so far its running like a champ. 21 mph! I didn't run it all the way at first just played around with it. It didn't seem to run as good all the way in. Seemed to take away more on bottom end.
