1991 EZGO Marathon Stalling Issues
Hello all! I have a 1991 Marathon 2 cycle that is having a strange issue. When its cold I can run it around for 5-10 minutes then it bogs down until I come to a complete stop. After I come to a complete stop it starts right back up and runs fine for about a minute then does it again. If I let it completely cool down, it will run fine again for another 5-10 minutes then repeat the same cycle. Any ideas? Thanks so much!!

Check the rubber fuel lines for leaks or kinks, blow out the steel fuel line, I have seen them plugged with rust if they have sat for some time. If it's rust replace it. Check flow from the fuel pump or an air leak under it at it's mount. Check crank seals for leaks by spraying wd40 behind the clutch and fly wheel while cranking.

Few more things to check after the fuel system above.
See what the battery voltage is when it dies. Failed voltage regulator can push it up above 16v and over heat the coil and cdi unit. Feel the coil and cdi when it dies. Are they extremely hot? Next ohm out and check the coil. If you have a timing light hook it up and see if you loose spark when it dies or check the plug and see if its really weak. |

Another thing I would check is make sure your oil mixer is working properly and not plugged or empty. I seen one exhibit these same symptoms last year and after I checked it out I found that the oil line going to the mixer valve was broke.... I ended up having to rebuild that engine because of it

Re: 1991 EZGO Marathon Stalling Issues
Hello All, just to update the thread...I have still been having this issue. But now it is a little more complicated. I think it may all be related to a bad battery. It has started having an issue where it wont have enough power to crank the engine over. If I hold the gas pedal down, I smell rotten eggs which I know is a problem with the battery. If I jumper the battery to my tractor it turns right on.
So I am pretty sure I obviously need a battery; but does anyone think all of these issues could be due to the bad battery? Thanks!! |
