Testing my starter/ generator. Check these numbers
Trying to verify my s/g is working properly. Wouldn't start due to low battery.
I found the get a reading at battery with key off and reading at mid throttle instructions. When I test with key off I get 12.74. When I turn on the key it drops to 12.46. At mid throttle it goes between 12.48 to 12.50. Turn the key off and I have 12.74. The only thing drawing power with key on is the gas gauge. Headlights are next click. I understood I would be 14+ at mid throttle. Or did I misunderstand? |

Re: Testing my starter/ generator. Check these numbers
Meter on the battery running you get 12.48-12.50- your battery is not being charged. Rare for a starter to fail, chances are voltage regulator. Ground the DF wire and see if the voltage soars at the battery. If so, starter good, voltage regulator bad

Re: Testing my starter/ generator. Check these numbers
in my mind this should suffice, but correct me if I'm wrong. Since I was home for a few minutes but in my work clothes I could get get in and dirty.
So I took the only thing I could find with alligator clip being my test light and connected to DF. At least what I think is the DF. The stud on the back side of the starter. I then took a reading prior to hitting the accelerator. I then took a reading with engine at idle with the test light on negative post. I noticed the light light up and my voltage climbs slowly as I accelerate but never gets passed 12.5. |

Scratch that.
I got another wire and used the test light alligator clip to hold it. Now my voltage shoots past 16 and climbing. |
