Default 2002 EZ GO top end power loss

Hi All,

I just recently purchased a 2002 ez go gas with the 295 robins. I noticed that the car has a really slow top speed. It seems to have plenty of power in the low end.. I plan on checking compression later tonight. Is there anything else I should check?

Any info would be appreciate as this is my first cart.

Appreciate the help!

So I checked compression i am getting 90 on both cylinders....

I am just wondering am I on the right track?

So I disconnected the drive belt so i could do the test without the cart rolling..
I have been searching the forum and i noticed a few posters said check the valve lash.. could this account for such low compression?

The cart itself seems to run fine i just have no top end speed. I was able to rev the engine to some higher rpms with the drive belt disconnected.

Should i plan on a rebuild?

What does it do in neutral (yes ezgo has a neutral lock so you can start the engine without the cart taking off) but you can do this at anytime.

If the driven clutch doesn't open up then there is your top end power loss.

Also check the throttle cables(they can also limit top speed)and adjust as needed.

Since it's running I doubt the valve lash would really effect it but it wouldn't hurt to check it.

Btw running the engine without the drive belt is bad on the cvt clutch.

90 psi is really bad on that new of an engine. You should be in the 150-160 range.
Valve adjustment will have an affect.
