Default Help identifying, and what to look for on first cart!

So, I've never owned a golf cart before, and I'm pretty convinced I would rather have gas over electric, and I've found one somewhat locally that is listed as an EZ-Go. I don't know much (in fact anything) about them, and was wondering if you guys could maybe offer some form of identification (like if there are models that are particularly troublesome) and what I should look for when I take it for a test drive in the next day or two? All I know is he said it's a 2-stroke model, and growing up with dirtbikes, chainsaws, and homemade whizzers, I can handle the engine part, but everything else is a blur.
The guy was asking $1,200, but I'm likely just going to trade him a rifle that has been sitting in my closet for a while, so anything you guys can chime in with, let me know! Clearly it's been taken off-road from the pictures.

It's a 1987 2 stroke 2-pg engine. A closer look at the data tag will verify that.

My own personal opinion is that they are never worth more than $1000 in any condition. Your opinion may vary.

I will post pictures of my 87 data tag, and carburetor. ( change of plans, my 87 picture is missing. This is for an electric 90, but you get the idea of the tag)

You want to make sure the spring is on the throttle cable to prevent backfiring.

The drive belt should measure 1 3/16" wide. An inch or under should be replaced. Working brakes are always a bonus. It should start right up in either direction without a problem. The fuel filter will never look full.

You can also go through this 85 manual to learn about it.

Thanks, that was definitely the kind of info I was looking for, but as soon as I asked the guy for a picture of the engine area, he quit responding to me. I have a feeling that he may have been hiding something, but I guess I'll know more tomorrow. In the mean time, I'm gonna check out the classifieds and see if there are any carts for sale in my area!

Yeah, people seem to want (what I consider) way too much for their carts around here, especially on Craigslist. ($5k and up for models that are over 10-20 years old) and I'm looking to do a trade that would require a specific audience of a firearms enthusiast.
