My old school 87 ezgo 2 stroke too loud - help
I spent alot of time, energy, and moolah polishing up an 87 ezgo marathon...now that the works complete, its too loud. I guess the spirit of a 2 stroke is not appreciated by my neighbors...anyone know how I can functionally make my cart quieter? Solutions welcome. Thanks.

You could try a silencer from a 2 stroke dirt bike. Like a 80cc.

Yeah, I've never heard a quiet 2 stroke either...but hey...buggies gone wild man...who knows what you folks have tried. Im not allowed to use it in my spot given its current noise level and its breaking my heart to think I have to cannibalize this one to facilitate the frankenstein of an old chump electric thats gonna be a wussy in comparison.
here's some pics...twas a heap...and pink...frankensteined the engine, made custom seats. given how cold it is...couldn't really paint it well...so I just flat blacked it to kill the pink...glad I didn't do all the body work and intricate paint work I was planning. You'll see the old color of it shining through a clear sticker baring the name of the place I found the cart. it needs a bath...its covered w/ road salt. |

I don't know about electric quite but a 80cc bike is reasonably quite, except when it's raped out. or maybe a little bigger one for a 125. you should be able to find one a bike wrecking yard.

Unfortunetly the pg2's were known for being a loud cart, my best suggestion would be just to replace the 2 exhaust gaskets (one on the head to header, and header to muffer). Other then that, she's a loud beast
The pg3's starting in 89, had a completely different exhaust setup, and were much quieter, best bet would be to try different exhaust setups if you dont mind modding stuff. Btw, i like the seat covers, pretty neat! |

Badger,
Are you a disc golfer? Cool. That is what we use an 96 clubcar CarryAll II and my 89 Ezgo 2 stroker for. Beats carrying coolers. Regarding the loud 2 stroke. I would try a new muffler. My 89 is not very noisy at all since I replaced mine. Marty |

Thanks for the comments boys....The seats were custom made by "Moped" Ted Stickels. The guy is a certifiable nut....rakes out 1960's JC Penny Pinto Mopeds and turns them into choppers that turn heads at the most discerning of bike shows....He is one of my hero's
Yes, a disc golfer....Though here in MD. VA area, there aren't many courses that are cart friendly...I mostly use my cart at a single course, the grange...If you haven't been, seriously, go. two 18 hole world class courses set on amongst a social scene that can't be beat...Live music...80's throwback arcade...swimming pool...hot tub...the place is a hoot. It would be a shame to dump this buggy...but w/o quieting down....I just won't be able to use it. |

One suggestion that i would do is try and put some of that exhaust wrap over the entire exhaust system. Eventhough its not really designed to keep noize down, someone i know tried it on his skidoo converted cart, and it really did cut down the noize alot.
