Default adding tailights

hey guys i need help. I just got an 2004 txt gas. It already has a led light bar installed on the front activated by the key switch. Ive made an attempt to install 2 small led marker lights as taillights. I was told by a friend to connect all pos. together and all neg. together. i tap in in front of the switch by the headlight. ive got power going to both tail lights but they wont come on. i went positive on driver side to positive on passenger side to positive up by the headlight.did the same thing with the negative. am i missing something? Im racking my brain any help would be appreciated. thanks again Mike
