98 Ezgo 4 stroke, smokes and backfires
Hi, I am new to this forum. Was hoping I could get some advice. I just bought a 98 ezgo, 4 stroke. The guy I bought it from said that the carb was replaced (by neighbor) and the cart ran fine for about an hour, then this.
Wouldnt start at all. I found a bad fuel pump, replaced. Starts up, but smokes and sputters (backfires). will drive if choke is pulled, seems strong. Wondering if I need to start with valves, or carb.?? If so, what should I do? (Already replaced plugs, I did find some liquid in the air filter case. Looked like fresh oil, not sure. Cleaned out prior to starting) Help? Anyone??? |

Ok, got some questions,
Is it lifted? if yes, is the oil up to the full mark on the dip stick? Did you check to see if the carb was loose? There's a bigger pcv hose that goes from the breather box to the crankcase, is it there and hooked up? Adjusting the valves would be a good idea. |

I was having the same problem with mine last summer. The breather hose under the air filter had a huge crack in it. Replaced it and runs great now.
